WAM training varies throughout the year, with 2-3 weekly sessions offered. Head Coach Lesley Blyth actively coaches paddlers during each session, providing feedback on technique, with a focus on individuals achieving maximum power and the team increasing its power as a fully-blended unit.
All WAM members are welcome to join training. The Coach provides feedback to all team members, but may focus her attention on paddlers joining the racing crew for upcoming races, or those training for the Club Crew National Championship(CCNC) or the PDBA qualifier for the 2018 Club Crew World Championship — both events are set for late summer.
WAM members training for CCNC or PDBA are expected participate in 67% of the weekend sessions and 50% of the midweek training sessions. From May through September, there are 2 weekly training sessions — Thursday evenings at Leschi Marina on Lake Washington and weekend sessions alternating between Leschi Marina and either Lake Meridian in Kent or Johnny’s Dock in Tacoma.
In addition, team members are expected to establish strength training goals and complete 1-2 assessments per season.
