There are not many original SAKE members left who can tell us stories about the legend that was Matthew Mar.  His family and his friends are sorely grieving his loss, after he lost his 2-year battle with cancer late last week. 

Sand Point Outrigger Canoe Club has requested a dragon boat to be present at a paddle-out and memorial for Matthew on Sunday.  Koichi will tow a dragon boat to Sand Point Paddling Club at Magnusen Park, where there will be a launch and paddle of various local clubs who will be present to honor his memory.

If you knew Matthew, you know what a loss to the community this is.  If you didn't have the honor of knowing him, know that he was foundational not just to Sand Point, but that SAKE can trace its heritage to his support and his relationships at Starbucks and within the paddling community.

If you have time on such short notice, please come out Sunday to support our outrigger cousins and our friends from Starbucks in their grief.  Support Matthew's family, who have specifically requested our presence.  Honor a man whose life was all about giving.

Seats are limited to one boat, minus a few seats for Matthew's family.  SAKE has a day to sign up, after which we will open RSVPs to community members who might like to attend.
